God save our Queens

WHY WE MUST PROTECT THE SOURCE OF OUR GOODNESS

The honey bee from our Isle of Man homeland is fighting fit. And we want to keep it that way. That’s because the only sweet stuff you will ever find in any bottle of Roots is 100% natural honey. The good stuff.

Isle of Man bees have disease-free status, and our queen bees are exported all over Europe. But all is not rosy. Harmful insecticides, climate change, wildflower meadows and the deadly Varroa mite are all putting them at risk.

JUST HOW THREATENED ARE OUR HONEY BEES?

Recent statistics show the scale of the problem:

  • The UK bee population has reduced by a third since 2007
  • Bee hives have declined by nearly 75% in the last century
  • Nearly 17% of bees didn’t survive the 2015-2016 winter

But the most shocking statistic is that our furry friends are responsible for one in three mouthfuls of the food we eat every day. Scary when you think about it.

Why are honey bees so important to us

Honey bees pollinate flowers, fruits and vegetables all over the world, helping them grow strong and provide food for us and the many other animals in our food chain.

Albert Einstein said:
“If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe then man would only have four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.”

That’s why we need to do something about it.

10% of our profits go to bee-related projects

To help preserve the precious Isle of Man honey bee, we put 10% of our profits into projects that keep our queen bees thriving.

So every bottle of Roots you buy contributes to saving our beloved bees from extinction. Read more about the work we’re doing in the Isle of Man.
